Pilates is a physical fitness system developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. The method, originally called "Contrology” consists of controlled movements that increase flexibility, builds strength, and develop control and endurance in the entire body. The system emphasises alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance. The core, consisting of the muscles of the abdomen, low back, and hips, is often called the "powerhouse" and is thought to be the key to a person's stability.
I believe that Pilates should be accessible to everyone and has the power to build strong bodies and prevent injuries. My Pilates journey started at a young age as I trained to be a professional ballet dancer. I was always drawn back to the work throughout studying for my Bachelors of Arts in Dance at Columbia University. When I moved to London and found myself unhappy in a corporate job, I felt inspired to change careers and focus on teaching full time. Most recently, Pilates has helped minimize pain throughout my first pregnancy and regain strength after my daughter was born in October 2020.
In 2018, I received my mat certification under Davorka Kulenovic, who studied under one of Joseph Pilates’ original students. I received my full apparatus training complete with 700 training hours through Exhale Pilates in Camden, London
Jessica is the most enjoyable, effective trainer I’ve had in a long time. She understands your limitations but will push you just enough so that you get closer to your goals. Recommend 15/10!
I am new to Pilates and have been searching for a private instructor. Jessica made me feel so comfortable every step of the way. She modified every exercise as needed for me, was extremely patient, and taught me so much in our time together. I am so excited to continue my practice with her. Jessica fully tailored the session to my needs and was an absolute joy to work with. I really appreciate that she checked in with me multiple times during my sessions to make sure they were right for my level, my body, and to check in on any pain. She adjusted her flow in real time when I mentioned that a certain move often hurts my lower back and continued to offer tips for how I could adjust other poses moving forward. I would highly recommend her for private lessons. This was all remote, by the way, and I can only imagine how great she must be in person too!!!
Jess has converted me to the power of pilates! I've always been a yoga/weights enthusiast, but under the pilates instruction of Jess, I've been made both mentally and physically aware of muscle groups I was once ignorant of too.
She's excellent at explaining each exercise, and ensuring that I fully understand the move, where I should feel it, and its benefits. After each class I feel not only fully worked out, but educated.
Her playlists are fantastic and her infectiously positive personality makes me look forward to each session.
We are so grateful to have found Jessica. We ended up working with her over three months while my Mom was here. She really understood her needs and where she needed to focus her strengthening. My Mom has had complications with walking and needing to strengthen her overall body. During these three months, I saw my Mom lose weight, gain strength and walk much more briskly then she ever has before. Jessica was able to tailor each exercise while increasing the repetitions, balance and flexibility for my Mom. She was able to focus on her muscles around her legs and the exercises really helped her to lose weight. One of the most important factors to me was ensuring her safety while my Mom’s focus was losing weight (she lost 3kg) so she’s over the moon!
